Dear NEST
supporter,
August 2010
SAVE THIS DATE: Sunday, Nov. 7!
Join Nancy Pearl, librarian extraordinaire, and
NEST for a special fund-raising dinner and talk on Sunday
November 7th, from 5 to 8 p.m.
You'll be getting a personal invitation by
e-mail from NEST soon, but mark your calendars now and invite your
neighbors. Or if you want to sign up right now, go to our website, www.nestseattle.org.
We're also looking for table captains, table
sponsors and volunteers to help us present Nancy at this dinner, held
at Temple Beth Am and catered by the Sunflour Bakery Cafe. So far
we have eight table captains and would love to have four more. Please
e-mail us at info@nestseattle.org if you can help, or call Debbie
Anderson at 206-525-6378.
Since we last wrote to you our successful fund
raising has continued. NEST now has more than $30,000 in our HomeStreet
Bank account. We'd like to thank the 29 new and seven repeat donors who
have contributed so far this summer. We've also had a wonderful
response from The Seattle Times article on us, "Grass-roots NEST to help elderly stay in
home."
Please consider donating to NEST this summer to
help us meet a challenge grant from the Horizons Foundation. When we
meet the grant, we will have half of the funding we need to open in
2011.
We would
love to have more community members join us on NEST's board to help
launch our services. Please e-mail Jeanne Carpenter at info@nestseattle.org
to discuss the possibilities.
NEST IS: A "virtual village" designed to maintain our
neighborhoods for all of us, including our older residents. This
model, pioneered in Boston almost 10 years ago, has been adopted in
dozens of cities around the country. Our non-profit, North East Seattle
Together (NEST), is the first Village in Seattle and was formed over a
year ago. When we are fully launched we will provide seniors another
way to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love.
NEST is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization which will be supported
primarily by membership dues. We will serve 14 neighborhoods in
northeast Seattle.
