Different cultures honor death in ways that bring comfort and meaning. Asian traditions emphasize ancestor remembrance, while Latin American celebrations like Día de los Muertos joyfully honor the departed. African and Indigenous cultures focus on communal mourning and storytelling, preserving wisdom and legacy. Western traditions often center on memorials and personal tributes, while certain beliefs offer hope through transition to heaven, and some offer hope through reincarnation, or spiritual continuity.
As we navigate the tasks and decisions surrounding the end of life, more people are embracing conversations, celebrations, and gatherings before death as part of their planning. What might those look like for you? Join Rebecca Crichton, Executive Director of the Northwest Center for Creative Aging, to explore how you can shape your own end-of-life experience. Together, we will discuss and share ideas that deepen our connections with the people who matter most.
